Use Of Vernier Caliper | Experiment No 1

मित्रांनो या ब्लॉग पोस्ट मध्ये आपण पाहणार आहोत इयत्ता अकरावी Physics मधील Experiment No : 1 ज्याच नाव आहे Use Of Vernier Caliper.

Aim :-

To determine volume of a solid sphere and a hollow cylinder by using Vernier Caliper.

Appratus :-

Vernier Caliper, solid sphere, hollow cylinder

Diagram :-

Formula :-

1) Least count (L.C) = (Smallest division on the main scale of vernier caliper)/(Total number of divisions on vernier scale)
2) Volume of solid sphere = 4/3πR³, where R – Radius of sphere
3) Volume of hollow cylinder = πr²h, where r – Radia of cylinder, h – Height of cylinder

Observation :-

Least count of Vernier calliper :
1) Smallest division on main scale = S =  0.1  cm.
2) Total number of divisions on vernier scale = N =  10
3) Least count = L.C = S/N =  0.01  cm.
So, Zero error Z =  0  cm.

Observation Table :-

Calculations :-

1) Radius of sphere (R) = D/2 = .......... Cm.
→  = 1.54/2
→  = 0.77 cm
2) Volume of sphere (V) = 4/3 πR³ = ......... cm³.
→  = Log4–Log3+Log3.14+(3×0.77)
→  = (0.6221–0.4771)+(0.4969)+(3×1'.8751)
→  = 0.1250+0.4969+1'.5253
→  = Antilog = 0.1472
→  = 1.403 cm³
3) Radius of cylinder (r) = d/2 = .......... cm.
→  = 2.84/2
→  = 1.42 cm
4) Volume of cylinder V = πR³h = ......... cm³.
→  = 3.14×(1.42)²×(4.52)
→  = Log3.14+(Log1.42×2)+Log4.52
→  = 0.4969+0.1523×2+0.6551
→  = Antilog = 1.4556
→  = 2.862×10¹
→  = 28.62 cm³.

Result :-

1) Volume of sphere = 1.403  cm³.
2) Volume of cylinder = 28.62  cm³.

Precautions :-

1) Hold the object tightly between the jaws; do not press the jaws too hard.
2) Take Observations for diameter at different positions of the object.
3) Eye should be exactly perpendicular to the Vernier scale while observing reading.

Multiple choice Questions :-

1) If Smallest division on the main scale of Vernier Calipers is 0.05cm and number of division on the vernier scale is 25, the L.C. of Vernier Calipers is ...........
Correct Option is b) 0.002 cm

2) Upper jaws are used to find .........
Correct Option is b) inner diameter

Questions :-

1) What is zero error ?
→  Zero error refers to the discrepancy between the true value of a measurement and the value indicated by an instrument or device. It can also refer to the difference between the zero point of a measuring instrument and the true zero point of the physical quantity being measured. Zero error can be positive or negative, and it can cause measurement errors if not accounted for or corrected.

2) How do you apply the correction due to zero error ?
The correction due to zero error can be applied by adjusting the instrument's zero point using a zero adjustment knob or by recalibrating the instrument. This process involves taking a measurement of the instrument's reading when it is not measuring any actual input (referred to as the "zero point"), and then adjusting the instrument's reading to match this zero point. It is important to regularly check and adjust for zero error to ensure accurate measurements.
